City of Gray

Public Works

Streets

Within the framework of a rapidly increasing population, the City of Gray is experiencing its share of growing pains. Maintaining highways, roads, streets and rights-of-way within city limits is an essential service.  In this mobile society, safety is a major concern expressed by residents and visitors alike.  The Public Works Department strives to maintain the integrity of facilities and roadways for safe public use and travel.  A coordinated effort between city officials, the city superintendent and city employees have created a support network that translates to progress.

City of Gray Streets Department is responsible for the maintenance of city byways while the Department of Transportation is responsible for the upkeep of state highways such as Highway 129.  An overview of a few activities include grass cutting and trimming, removal of any overgrowth on city rights-of-way that obstructs traffic and may become a potential hazard, repairing potholes and minor surface problems, replacing damaged or missing road signs, etc.  Any problem that demands attention can be reported at City Hall or the City Superintendent’s office where a work order will be created.

Councilman David Tufts is the chairman of the Streets and Cemetery Committee.      He has current and past administration experience having served as chairman of this committee for a number of years.
